This year, more than 8,000 runners, joggers, and walkers of all ages entered the family-friendly race, evoking memories of the Sydney 2000 Games as they experienced the spectacular journey through the ‘tunnel of champions’ on to the turf of ANZ Stadium in a 100 metre finish straight.
Rugby legend Hazem El Masri was on hand to fire the starting gun for the 10km and new 3km fun runs. “As one of Rugby Leagues One Community Ambassadors, I am extremely passionate about health, fitness and the community coming together for great causes. It was an honour to help start Run4Fun and watch so many groups head out to not only take on the challenge, but also raise much-needed funds for charity,” said El Masri.
Olympian Ben St Lawrence has taken the top male spot in the fourth annual Rebel Sport Run4Fun presented by The Sun-Herald, while Lara Tamsett was the first woman to cross the line.
“I feel great. After the Olympics I had a lot if down time and indulged in things I hadn't been able to do. It's great to be part of a community event and this was a good indication of where I'm at. Getting a win always feels good,” said St Lawrence.
Female winner Tamsett said: “I feel relieved. Training has gone alright. I've just been in Bulgaria for a half marathon so I've been really focused on racing and recovering and getting back in to the groove.”
